Acetone is is a colorless, aromatic liquid with a distinct smell and it evaporates easy, and soluble in water. In our cleanroom it is typically used (in combination with IPA for cleaning substrates and for stripping (i.e. dissolving) PMMA-based e-beam resists during lift-off processes. It is a flammable substance (both in liquid and vaporous form).
Heating acetone increases the release of toxic, flammable vapors, which, in large amounts, can cause severe respiratory irritation, dizziness, unconsciousness and intense skin burns. If it comes into contact with incompatible materials oxydizing agents it can cause violent reactions such as excessive splattering. Make sure that you do this in a down-flow (wet) bench or a fume hood.
